Developing Capacity from Rio to Reality: Who's Taking the Lead?

Vitens Evides International (VEI)

Vitens and Evides are two major water companies in The Netherlands, providing over 500 million m3 to approximately 7.5 million customers. With their 2,000 experts and an annual turnover of €712 million, they stand for highly reliable water services and unique potable water quality for domestic, industrial and agricultural consumers. Together, they established an international entity called Vitens Evides International.

Vitens Evides International is a major lead partner for water utilities all over the world. By sharing “best practices” and valuable knowledge and experience, their operator partnerships can build financially sound and technically competent water operators. This is a major prerequisite in sustaining cost-effective water services for people. In order to arrive at this position, capacity development is seen as a important tool to induce change and to implement novel operational concepts.

Vitens Evides International has established a variety of expert groups on institutional development and governance, financial planning, control and commercial management, change management, NRW and asset management, and sanitation. Within these expert groups, relevant experiences from the numerous international VEI projects in amongst others Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Mongolia, Vietnam and Yemen accumulate and become available for partners.
